Praise for The Washashore!
“There is a good amount of intrigue and mystery which kept me guessing, and although I knew nothing of rumrunning or indeed much about Martha’s Vineyard, thanks to impeccable research and real sense of time and place I now feel I know more about both.”
“This was such a profound and gripping mystery novel. The balance between historical fiction, mystery, and suspense was perfectly captured in this book.”
“I didn't want the book to end at all. I finished this in the early morning hours. The characters didn't want me to put it down.”

“This was a story that was fun to read. It was light. It was airy. It was descriptive and lyrical. It told a story that I am sure would be considered one of adventure and danger. A murder, rum runners, danger, drama, and mystery fill these pages. It's easy to get lost in another world.”
Praise for Blue-Eyed Slave and authors!
What a phenomenal experience for our students, our teachers, and our community! Bird and Marshall are engaging, passionate, inspiring humans, and our students basked in their classroom activities and talked about them for days. Our teachers crafted a four-week research project to intersect with the reading of Blue-Eyed Slave, and these projects were displayed for the public reading. This dynamic duo makes research and writing look FUN—and our students were completely immersed in the process and product—we can't wait for the next novel!

It is rare to find a novel that can both transport you to another time and speak to you at the very moment in which you find yourself. Yet, this is exactly what Blue-Eyed Slave by Marshall Highet and Bird Jones. It was pure magic to spend time with Bird and Marshall. From their warm, approachable demeanors to their razor-sharp wit, to their ability to speak about the writing process in a way that inspires Middle School students, these co-authors are the whole package. I highly recommend having them visit your school!
